As long as there's nothing sharp or pointy in the substrate, cocofiber should be fine. Biggest worry is to keep anything that could rupture that cyst away from the T/out of the enclosure and to make sure it cannot climb the walls (short walls for whatever you put him in). It'll need to be in this cage for a long time (for the duration it takes it to molt a few times) until it has shed/molted the cyst off. Sometimes it's one molt, othertimes it stays with the T for quite a few molts.

I once purchased a WC H. maculata from a LPS because it had a bulge on her opisthosoma. When I saw her abdomen I figured that no one else would take as good a care as I would, so I took her home. I wasn't planning on owning a spider with that kind of reputation, but I'm a sucker. And I don't suggest buying noticeably unhealthy critters. Anyways, I didn't treat her any differently than I would have should she had been healthy. She wasn't overeating, so that wasn't a concern. Once she molted, she was as good as new.

I figure that she was gratious since she was never any bother. Never even gave me a scare. So beautiful, but I doubt that I'll be getting another. Not unless I could be gauranteed that mellow temperament.
