      Minnesota Zoo Insect Exhibit

I got some nice shots of the fantastic giant animated insect models. But the insects themselves didn't have enough light in their vivariums to allow decent macro shots at f/16 without a flash ... I did manage to salvage these few, but they had so many more wonderful creatures whose photos just didn't make it.

      Even a fifteen-foot Idolo!

      Gongylus gongylodes, Violin Mantis

Extatosoma tiaratum, Giant Prickly Stick Insect

These things get huge and are absolutely fantastic!! Must find some.
      Check out these images ...

      http://www.heise.de/imagine/93jsjzM8...a-tiaratum.jpg

And I came across this, pretty amazing ...
"Parthenogenesis: Like many species of insect, the Extatosoma tiaratum is capable of reproducing via parthenogenesis (literally translating to "virgin birth"). Parthenogenesis is a fascinating process in which an adult female E. tiaratum will produce fertilized ova without the help of a male - she basically clones her DNA."

In the aquarium, these were really beautiful ...

      Phycodurus eques, Leafy seadragon

It was fun, too bad they didn't have even more!

      Thanks Ranchibi!

Yeah, I was pretty disappointed not to be able to get many successful shots of the bugs.

Look how white it's already getting!

Thanks a lot Ranchibi! Lots of insects and spiders at this meet, didn't have time to shoot all of them.
