      Strike Two. Good bye Leap.

While gone on vacation, I put my pets in the care of a pet store owner and his mom I have gotten to know. They are quite knowledgeable of Ts, and they were my best option.

Gone for 4 weeks, I called the day before to let them know I would in the next day to pick up my crew. He informed me one of my adult Ts molted and died in the molt. He didn't know which species it was.

I was very anxious to know which one it was, and seeing I had most molt in the months leading up to vacation, I was concerned it was one of a few of my very special girls. I hoped beyond hope that it was my son's MM B. albopilosum (my son was already ready to let go of him as he has a replacement B. albiceps sling now), but I just didn't know.

At the pet store, to my utter amazement, I saw it was indeed my son's MM curly. I don't wish anything against my son, but that was the most hopeful possibility of this news. I broke the news to my son, who then told me he figured it was him and was fine with that.

On a side note, Jeremiah (the MM), was only 4 months mature when he tried to molt again. I have a theory. Amanda of Tarantula Canada suggested I could introduce him to Molly (his upcoming date) to prompt her to molt so I could breed them. It seems to have worked as she was dark when I left her at the pet store. My theory is that it did the same for him too.

Anyway, relieved with this revelation, I picked up the container for Leap, my female Avic. geroldi sling, and saw that her container was dried out and she was lifeless.

She is the second geroldi sling I have lost this year.

The pet store owner says he is ordering a lot of 10 next week. Scheming already.

Just saw this thread and thought about all that has transpired in the last 3.5 years since.

I eventually picked up an A. geroldi sling for a third attempt, and she is doing quite well and beautiful now. In fact, I had her with me today for an all-day school show at an elementary school more than an hour away. I showed my Ts to 7 classes (about 140 students). I think it worked out this time that the principle had ruled that the kids would not be handling or touching the spiders today, so that minimized the stress on my Ts who were presented for 7 classes.

The other reason I chose to comment here and revive this thread is that it is a bit of an encouragement to me. I can see that in hindsight, I lost 2 A. geroldi slings before I got one that has done well. This is not just an encouragement for others who are tempted to give up trying after two deaths, but it is an encouragement for me after I just lost my second P. antinous girl last week.

I will wait and see what happens.
