      TConfused Red claw emperor scorpion??

Hey guys!! So my brother just got a cute little 2 1/2 inch red claw emperor scorpion. That's what the petstore called it. Pretty cheap like $30. All the owner new was they are said to make good beginner pets. I don't know the first thing about scorpions, anyone have a good care sheet? Or a thread to link me to?

I'm doing research for him because this is my thing. He wanted something easy to care for that wouldn't take up a lot of room and that's all he really cared about, but I want to know everything. Especially because now I want one... hehe

I do not own scorpions and know little about them besides what I learn online (which can be bad information, just like with Ts!)...

But I think the first thing to knowing how to care for it would be knowing exactly which species it is. Guessing by the common name it was labeled as... my guess would be Pandinus cavimanus - the Tanzanian Red Clawed Scorpion? Can you google pics of that scientific name and see if that looks like what was purchased?

The Emperor Scorpion is Pandinus imperator, and the internet tells me they do make good beginner scorpions.

One of the more interesting things I'm finding online about the difference between keeping the two, is that P. cavimanus has a tendency to sting way more frequently than P. imperator.

Since I'm don't keep them myself, I don't want to link to any care sheets that may have bad information in them. I'm not sure which sites should be trusted when it comes to scorpion care!

But there are definitely members here that own scorps. I'm sure they'll be more helpful!

Haha yea. I think so. My poor fiance is terrified. He said he didn't think it could get worse than me wanting giant spiders until now. Now I want "giant spiders with claws and a stinger" ...poor guy... he just doesn't get it.

ID:	59043I recently picked up 5 Pandinus cavimanus (Red Claws) and they can be kept similarly to Emperor scorpions moist/warm (not quite as moist but, moist). But, these are NOT communal! They are a subtropical species and are ambush predators. They are more aggressive than Emps and will pinch/sting more readily but, the stings are not potent...bee like...just hope you're not allergic! Great species

Great species . Also, when mature these are easily sexed...males have a large dent on their claws and a large tooth on the lower part of the chela. The one in the photo is a female.

Awesome info! Thanks Ranchibi. I will have to let my brother know he mentioned earlier that he read that they should be kept in colonies. I think he will be glad to know that is not the case.
