      A few questions

I have a curly haired spiderling who I will be moving into a 5 gallon tank when he gets bigger. I am confused about what his set up should include. What should I put In the bottom and how much? Does he need fake plants ? I just wanna make him as happy as a t could be.

You want to put a lot of substrate. The general rule for terrestrial species is no more than 1.5X their legspan of space between the top of the substrate to the top of the enclosure. For example..if the spider was 3" you would have no more than 4.5" between the top of the substrate to the top of the enclosure. This minimizes the chance of injury if they climb and fall. I actually go with even more substrate..1X their leg span of space. Substrate type is up to you but you need to make sure it has no fertilizers, wood with cedar, pine, etc, and isn't too abrasive. Things to stay away from are wood chips, wood shavings, sand, anything from the yard. The most common (and my personal favorite) is coconut fiber. You can buy it in bricks that you soak in water to swell it up. It's much cheaper that way than buying it in bags. You want to do this ahead of time because it takes a while to dry out. They don't "need" fake plants but you can certainly add some if you like. She/he will need a water dish with nice clean water (no cotton balls, etc), but you can add a couple pebbles so prey doesn't drown in there. A nice dark hide or two is always appreciated. That's about it. Make sure your lid is very secure and any ventilation holes are smaller than the carapace of your tarantula.
